Those Three Chapter 20
The school day seem to come by quickly. Lacy was at her desk thinking about when would be a good time to talk to Ronnie, but at the same time she was thinking about what Robert had said. “Does Ronnie really want to forget what happened and just be friends again? I am so confused.” Lacy thought to herself. She just didn’t seem to understand what that meant and if that meant that Ronnie will be hanging out together with Robert and her again. “I wonder if Ronnie and Stephanie are really dating… Because of…” Lacy’s face turned red.
“Why is your face red? You aren’t getting sick are you?” Katie whispers to Lacy. Lacy shook her head. “That’s good.”
“Is there something that you two would like to share to the class?” The teacher asked Katie and Lacy. She seemed angry that Katie was whispering to Lacy in the middle of her talking.
“Nothing!” Katie says quickly and looked back at her workbook. Lacy had noticed that Alana wasn’t in class. In fact, she didn’t see her all day so far when she had been going to different classes.
“I wonder if Alana is not feeling well because of her pregnancy?” Lacy thought to herself and looked down. “I was once pregnant before but that ended up in a miscarriage. That was really scary…” Lacy felt like she was about to cry just thinking about the past. She did her best to hold it in.
At lunch, Lacy went into the bathroom. She finally let the tears out that she did her best to hold in. “Why am I getting so sad thinking this now?” Lacy wondered. Katie came into the bathroom and realized Lacy was crying.
“Oh no! Is something the matter?” Katie asks her. Lacy starts wiping her tears from her face. Her makeup was getting messed up.
“It’s nothing.” Lacy lied.
“Robert isn’t fighting with you is he?” Katie asks. Lacy shook her head.
“No. He’s not been fighting with me. We been actually getting along great…” Lacy had dried her tears and was working on fixing her makeup.
“Craig and I are doing okay I guess. But… We haven’t been talking much lately. I feel like I been avoiding him and he may be avoiding me.” Katie pulled out some lip gloss and was looking at herself in the mirror as she was reapplying it.
“That’s a shocker. You two usually get along so well.”
“Yeah, I think we will start talking again soon. It’s just… our relationship almost was onto the next level and I don’t think we both are actually ready for that.” Katie admits and puts her lip gloss away back into her makeup bag and back into her purse that she had on her.
“Oh, so you two almost had sex.” Lacy laughed a little.
“Hey! It’s not funny! It’s serious! And embarrassing!” Katie blushed.
“Is it because you were the one that almost caused you two to have sex?” Lacy guessed. Katie’s face got more red. “Oh, so I am right? I gottcha.” Lacy laughed more.
“I-I got to go!” Katie was nervous and ran out of the bathroom.
After school, Lacy had gotten a text from Robert.
Robert’s Text: Sorry, I won’t be over at my apartment today. I am helping dad fix some stuff at the house and I probably will sleepover.
“I guess I could go home? Maybe not… I did want to talk to Ronnie, but he didn’t show up in school today. Maybe I can shoot him a text. Lacy texted Ronnie. He was sleeping but just woke up when he felt his phone vibrated by him. He checked his phone and was surprised to see that Lacy had texted him.
Lacy’s Text: Hey, this is Lacy. I think we really should talk. I mean I know I tried to talk about the past before, but I mean we really need to have a serious talk about it. That’s if you’re okay with that.
Stephanie woke up and rubbed one of her eyes. “Who wrote you?” She asks. “A friend?”
“Kinda, I guess. Lacy did.” Ronnie admits. Stephanie felt a little nervous and jealous but didn’t say anything.
“She wants to talk to me about the past.” Ronnie shows Stephanie the message. She looks down. “Look, I get it if you’re jealous.”
“It’s fine. You can talk to her. I can’t tell you what to do.” Stephanie got up and out of bed. She took her nightgown off and was dressing herself. “If you want, you can talk to her here. I can just go out. I need to do a little bit of shopping anyways.” Stephanie went to the bathroom to brush her hair. Ronnie followed Stephanie into the bathroom.
“Would that be okay with you?” He asked her. She nods.
“Yeah, I am jealous but what can I do? I don’t think Lacy would let you actually touch her though.” Stephanie said. She was putting her hair up into two pigtails.
“I don’t want to touch her, besides… You made me felt amazing last night.” Ronnie said to her. Stephanie blushed and felt her heart start to beat fast.
“R-Really?” She nervously asked.
“Yeah.”
Ronnie left. Stephanie sat there on the bed. “I am not even sure if I can see things anymore… I am so confused. I had a dream telling me to come here to Ronnie… But sometimes I get other dreams too… Last night I dreamed that I was happy with him. Maybe we really are going to become a happy couple…” Stephanie smiles a little. She had hopes. She was hoping that she was able to see things, and hope that the two of them would be a happy couple together. That’s what she wanted. She felt like the more time she spent with Ronnie, she grew to like him more and more each day.
Ronnie was walking over to Lacy’s home. He was thinking about things as he was. “Lacy wants to talk more about the past. I just felt hurt over the past before. I tried to not be and smiled for Lacy’s sake. Because I didn’t want to make her feel confused or upset. I liked her. But then I began to hate love. Hate the thought about it so much…”
Ronnie made it. He rung the doorbell. Lacy was nervous. “That’s Ronnie!” She knew it had to of been. She made her way to the door and opened it. “Uh…”
“You wanted to talk, right?”
“Yes! You can come in.” Lacy says kind of nervously. She lets Ronnie in and shuts the door. “Go ahead and sit down. I don’t want to keep you too long though.” Ronnie sits down on the love seat in the living room. Lacy sat down on the sofa.
“Is there really much to talk about?” Ronnie asks her. Lacy looked at him and then looked down.
“I want us to be friends, but is it right? I mean I miss when the three of us used to hang out. You, Robert, and I. It’s just… I don’t know. Maybe it’s weird because we had a weird relationship before. But I like you. But… Not that way you know? And I feel bad about how I did things in the past.” Lacy looked like she was about to cry. “I feel bad that I was being so stupid. Thinking I was in love with two guys. And I feel horrible that I used you and Robert both. I couldn’t decide at first and then I realized. My heart belonged to Robert and I hurt you… I even hurt Robert over it. I am stupid.” Lacy started to cry. “I was really a stupid pathetic slut. That pretended to be in love with two guys when I didn’t even realize I was… I was falling in love with Robert. I had some stupid little crush on Craig and even a crush on you. But… My feelings for Robert just never faded away. He was the one that kept coming to my mind. The one I wanted to be near!” Lacy had tears that kept coming down her face. Ronnie just stared at her as she wept in front of him. “But I was hurting you all this time! And I hurt Robert too! I was so selfish and stupid! I hurt you for making you go through that when you had feelings for me! I was wrong for what I did with Robert! And it’s even stupid of me to think that we can be friends! Because it’s weird to be friends with exs!”
“But Lacy… I mean… Even though there was a short amount of time that you thought you were with me, you really wanted to be with Robert.” Ronnie got up and walks over to her. “And I know about the whole pregnancy deal and you know the miscarriage. But Lacy… Forget about it.” Ronnie touches her head. Lacy looked up at him.
“But… recently… You were acting angry and you were so angry with me… Hated me… And then I don’t know. Try to split Robert and I apart! Then… I don’t know…” Lacy said crying. Ronnie stared at her for a moment. Then he looked down.
“I had a talk with Bryan.” Ronnie took his hand off Lacy’s head and turned away from her. “Bryan kind of helped me. I don’t know. I haven’t actually talked much with him as I kept going out and doing stupid things. I really was hurt from what happened between you and Robert. I felt like I hated love. I didn’t want to ever fall in love. I promised myself that. Because you hurt me. And I didn’t want to go through that no more.”
“Ronnie…” Lacy got up. “I am sorry…”
“I know. Look. I am trying to forget about the whole thing. And even forget the incident that happened. You say you want to hang out and be friends again. And I agree you know?” Ronnie turned around and stared at her.
“Ronnie… Are you sure?” Lacy asked and was wiping her tears from her eyes.
“Yes, I think I really need to admit I was the loser. Robert got you. And… I think you two really are a good couple. I feel bad for fighting with my brother so long over this you know? I mean. You’re a great girl Lacy. Just… It’s not worth it. Robert and you look good together. Besides… Maybe there’s Stephanie I can have. I mean she is obsessed with me.” Ronnie chuckled a bit. Lacy stopped crying.
“Do you like Stephanie?” Lacy asks.
“Yeah, I like her. You know, maybe it was fate that she came back here in this town, you know?” Ronnie smiles. Lacy just stared at him.
“He seems genuine with his feelings. Maybe he did started to develop feelings for Stephanie? But… It wasn’t too long ago he seemed angry with both Robert and I still. I can’t blame him but it’s like all of a sudden he doesn’t want to be angry with us anymore. I am confused because before he acted like he wasn’t angry then he started to distance himself from us for them two years and he actually was angry. But… Now… I am confused. Maybe he is… Maybe he is ready to start a fresh start. I do feel guilty from the past. For what I did. I don’t know if Ronnie forgives me…” Lacy thought to herself as she stared at Ronnie.
“Lacy… I really did love you. I loved you for a long time. I was hurt when you chose Robert. I already knew… I knew that you had more feelings for Robert. I knew for a while but I… I wanted to deny it. I was hurt. Already was for a while. The moment I saw you Lacy. I liked you. You were just there. And I liked your personality. Your smile. I wanted to protect you when you got hurt. But… You had Robert there.” Ronnie admits. Lacy touches Ronnie’s face.
“Ronnie, I am thankful that I did meet you. I am sorry I didn’t feel love towards you. And I am sorry for thinking I did. All because I didn’t want to hurt you. But that ended up hurting you even more.” Lacy said and looked like she was about to cry again.
“You don’t need to cry. That’s just the way things go. I first felt upset then it turned to anger. And for those two years I kept my distance. And then I finally came up with the idea of separating the both of you. I got selfish. Then… Stephanie… She was just there. You know? Now, let’s just be happy and forget all this.” Ronnie said to Lacy.
“Alright.” Lacy smiled a little.
The next couple days have gone by, Ronnie kept hanging out with Stephanie but sometimes they were hanging out with Robert and Lacy too. It was the evening and Robert had gone to his dad’s home to talk to him. They both were in the living room together. Brice was watching TV and Robert wasn’t paying no attention to it.
“Did you ever find out about Michael’s dad? You know about the story of your brother and you know…” Robert asks his dad.
“I been confused with that dumb story about Michael’s birth for a long time. I even asked Mason about it again. But I think the story was that Mason used to like Peggy like I did. But didn’t want to get in between the two of us. Then Peggy forced herself on Mason and he felt bad but didn’t know how to stop her. Then Michael was born. I don’t know. Mason apologized but I am not really angry anymore. Besides, I got Amy now and she’s a great woman. More than Peggy ever would be. Do you like her?” Brice asked.
“She’s nice. I mean I have no problem with Amy to be honest. I am just surprised that after everything that happened, it’s like Peggy vanished and don’t seem to care about any of us at all.” Robert said.
“Yeah, I think the last time I heard from her was a few days after the divorce was finalized and stuff. She said she wished we all died. She said the same thing to Mason actually.” Brice tells Robert and laughed. “She’s a crazy bitch. Can’t believe I put up with her for years.”
“Yeah, I am surprised you put up with her when she was cheating on you.” Robert says to his dad.
“So you said you wanted to talk to me about something? Did you just wanted to ask about your uncle Mason and your mom?” Brice asked his son confused.
“No. Actually…” Robert started to feel a little nervous.
