Robert felt embarrassed from Ronnie all night trying to hit on girls. At 11 PM the party was over. Everyone left. Robert had to help Ronnie home and snuck him inside the house. “I can’t believe you got drunk.” Robert says to Ronnie. Ronnie was passing out.
“Shut up.” Ronnie says. He was clearly still drunk. Robert helped his brother to their bedroom and laid him on his bed. He had a hard time taking his shoes and threw them on the floor.
“This is the last time I take you to a party.” Robert said feeling mad at Ronnie. Ronnie had already passed out. Brice and Abbilynn were asleep. Bryan and James were asleep as well. Lacy was sleeping. She was having a nightmare.
“Get off me!” Lacy was crying as Steven was on her. He was laughing.
“You like it, you little whore! Bitch!” Steven rudely says to Lacy. She kept crying. Lacy woke up from her nightmare in a cold sweat. Panting. Abbilynn woke up hearing Lacy.
“Are you okay?” She asked her daughter.
“Y-Yes.” Lacy lies. “I…I just got to go to the bathroom.” Lacy gets up and left the attic. Abbilynn had gone back to sleep. Lacy went into the bathroom. She was splashing water on her face. She turned the faucet off and just stood there. “I keep having nightmares of that night.” Lacy thought to herself. “The night that he…” Lacy felt upset and scared thinking about it. The bathroom door opened.
“I didn’t know someone was in here.” Robert said as he noticed Lacy was in the bathroom. She stared at him. “Is something the matter?” Robert asks her. She looked down. “Lacy?”
“I’m fine.” Lacy said but started to cry.
“You’re crying. You’re lying.” Robert says looking at Lacy. The tears wouldn’t stop. Robert went over to her and tried to hug her. Lacy pushes him away.
“Stop it! Don’t touch me!” Lacy snaps at Robert. He pushes her up against the wall.
“You stop it.” Robert said looking at her in the eyes. Lacy was trying to run away but Robert held her to the wall.
“I hate you.” Lacy says glaring at Robert.
“I hate you too. Every time I look at you I want to cut you.” Robert says.
“Yeah, and when I look at you, I want to just gorge your eyes out!” Lacy felt her heart beat fast as Robert’s face got close to hers. “Y-You really hate me?” Lacy asks as Robert’s lip almost touches hers.
“Do you really hate me?” Robert asked her.
“I…” Lacy wasn’t sure how to respond. She could feel that they both were about to kiss. Lacy quickly turned her head away.
“It’s late. You really should be getting to sleep.” Robert tells Lacy. She just stared the other way. She felt like she couldn’t face looking at Robert. Her face was red and her heart was beating fast. “You haven’t been thinking about your mom’s ex-boyfriend have you?”
“N-No.” Lacy lies. She didn’t want him knowing the truth. The truth was she was indeed thinking of him lately. Afraid of him and having nightmares. She didn’t want to discuss that with anyone. She quickly walks out of the bathroom.
“She’s lying.” Robert said already knowing the truth. “No one will feel normal and okay if that happened to them. It will take a while for her to heal from something like that.” Robert shuts the bathroom door and looks down at the floor. “I can’t imagine knowing what it’s like being raped as a female. Being a female must be harder than being a male.”
It was the next morning. Ronnie wasn’t feeling good and stayed home from school. Robert, Lacy, and Bryan all went to school together. At home, Brice had the day off and received a phone call. He answered the phone.
“Hello?”
“Brice, is that you?” A familiar voice asked. It was Peggy, Brice’s wife.
“What is it?” Brice asks her.
“Can we just try to work this out? We can’t just throw away our marriage.” Peggy said sounding upset.
“You can come over today. I don’t have work. Ronnie is sick and stayed home from school, but he’s sleeping in his bedroom.”
“I’ll be right over as soon as possible.” Peggy said and hung the phone up. Brice wasn’t sure if he was in the mood to face Peggy. The two of them argued on and off ever since they been together since high school. Peggy was the most popular girl in the school that Brice had a crush on. He wasn’t much popular back then and was surprised that they began dating. When they started dating in their high school life, it wasn’t even too long later Peggy got pregnant with Robert. They both were parents at a young age.
Robert was sitting at his desk. Close to him was Lacy. It had begun raining and seemed like a storm was outside. The teacher pulled down a map from her board and was pointing at parts of the map. Robert wasn’t’ even paying attention to what she was saying and was just looking out the window. Staring at the rain made him felt more calm.
“Love doesn’t exist, but why did I almost kiss Lacy last night?” Robert couldn’t understand his actions. “Lacy is beautiful when she cries.” Robert was blushing a little as he kept thinking of Lacy.
At Brice’s home, there was a knock at the door. Brice answered it and saw Peggy standing in the doorway. She had a bag in her hands. “Brice, let’s talk this all out.” She said. Brice lets her in and closes the door. Peggy quickly sits her bag down and wraps her arms around Brice. “I missed you.” She said and kisses Brice.
“Pe-“ Brice couldn’t even talk as Peggy kept kissing him. Brice began to kiss Peggy’s lips back. Ronnie was feeling terrible. He had a hangover, but didn’t discuss that with his father. He got out of bed and was going to try something to drink. He went downstairs and happen to see his mother and father making out.
“What the hell are they doing?” Ronnie thought to himself. His head was hurting and felt like the room was spinning. He still was able to tell that his parents were making out. His parents’ part lips.
“Brice let’s take this to the bedroom.” Peggy smiles devilishly.
“Peggy, this isn’t talking out our problems.”
“We can talk out our problems in our bedroom.” She insisted. Ronnie quickly hid in the closet in the hallway when his parents went upstairs. When they went upstairs, he got out of the closet.
“Ew. Is mom and dad going to have sex?” Ronnie was disgusted and went into the kitchen. At lunch time in school, Robert and Lacy were sitting next to each other. Craig and Max came over to sit across from them.
“Hey, did you guys like the party?” Craig asked and laughed a little. “Ronnie has a hangover?”
“It’s not funny.” Robert said feeling embarrassed about Ronnie last night.
“He shouldn’t of drunk so much!” Max laughed a little like Craig did.
“You went to that party last night?” Lacy asked Robert. He didn’t answer. Craig answered for him.
“He sure did. Ronnie did too.”
“The house is such a mess. I have to clean it up still.” Max tells them. “I got three more days till my grandpa is supposed to come home.”
“You live with just your grandpa?” Robert asks.
“Yeah, my grandma died before I was even born. When my dad was young. My parents supposedly died too a little after I was born.” Max explains. “So I live with my grandpa.”
“My mom left when I was young. She left my little sister, my dad, and me. Our family is complicated.” Craig said. Robert was confused on why Max and Craig were telling him and Lacy about their life.
“Besides Lacy having a rough life, these two might too.” Robert thought to himself. “My life isn’t so great either. My parents keep arguing and separate from each other for a while, and then get back together for just a little while to repeat history. I have a feeling my parents just might divorce each other one day.”
Ronnie had gotten himself a bottle of water out of the fridge; he took a few sips of it and then left the kitchen. He was still feeling bad. His head was hurting and all he wanted to do was lie down. He goes upstairs and could hear noises coming from his parents’ bedroom. Pleasure sounds.
“I knew it. They did went to get it on.” Ronnie went to his bedroom and shuts the door. He then went to lay down on his bed after he sits his bottle of water on the end table.
At school, lunch was almost over. “When are you going to have another party again?” Craig asks Max.
“I am not sure. Whenever my grandpa leaves again for work out of town.” Max replies.
“Why did you have beer at that party?” Robert asked.
“Because, a lot of people like it.” Max answered.
“I am not into it. But I do sometimes like to smoke.” Craig said and laughed a little.
“Yeah, I like to smoke too but I do it more than Craig.” Max says and took a bite of his food. Robert was surprised hearing about it.
“I smoke a lot too and it got my mother mad.” Robert says.
“You smoke?” Max asked Lacy.
“No.” Lacy answered.
“You really should’ve come to the party.” Max winks at Lacy. She didn’t even bother noticing. After lunch, the four of them went to their classes.
Ronnie felt like he couldn’t sleep when his parents were making such a wracked. They were loud. He could hear his mother screaming loudly as if she was in his bedroom or the hallway.
“They are getting on my damn nerves. I just want to sleep.” Ronnie mumbles to himself and turned over on his bed.
The two finally stopped. Brice and Peggy were lying together on their bed. Side by side. “Peggy, I said I didn’t want this. I thought we were going to talk.” Brice said feeling bad for what he had done.
“I missed you Brice. Didn’t you miss me?” Peggy asked and cuddled up next to Brice.
“I did miss you, but I want to talk things out. Not just have sex and then fight again.” Brice tells her.
“Okay, let’s talk this out.” Peggy says to him as she still cuddled up next to him. “I want little girls. I never wanted those ugly little boys. They are annoying and I hate them.”
“Hate them? How can you hate your own kids?” Brice asked getting up. Making Peggy let him go.
“I just do. Don’t you think they are annoying? Doing bad things, talking back, and just being born is enough to aggravate me.”
“Peggy, those boys are young. They will do stupid things and they’re doing it because of you! The way you treat them!” Brice yelled.
“I treated them how they’re supposed to be treated. They treated me wrong.” Peggy says as she was sitting up on the bed.
“No you did not! First you tried to get them to dress like girls! Then you would blame them for things they didn’t do! Slap them when they did nothing! What is the matter with you?!” Brice felt like he was furious with Peggy.
“I thought you loved me, but I guess I was wrong.” Peggy started to cry. “I should just kill myself!”
“Again with that death talk?” Brice felt like he was fed up with Peggy. Every time they were together they just argued. “This isn’t going to work out.”
“What do you mean?” Peggy asked with tears running down her face.
“We been together since we were teenagers, but even then I was fed up with you. I just tried to make it work because I cared about you. But I can’t make it work. When we were teenagers, all you did was hung with your friends or go out instead of taking care of Robert. Smoking with them and getting high. You didn’t even bother taking care of our baby. I was watching him and then had my parents watch him when I went to my part time job.”
“I was a kid then.” Peggy said.
“Yeah, but when Bryan was born when you were an adult you did the same thing. Even when Ronnie was. I feel like I can’t deal with you anymore! I’m sorry but I can’t take this relationship between us. Sex and then fighting again. Get out! I’m done with you!” Brice says. Peggy got out of bed.
“You’ll regret this.” She glares at him and began getting dressed.
“I want a divorce.” Brice tells her. Peggy was still glaring at Brice when she was fully dressed. She then got her purse and ran off.
