Lacy was sitting on her bed. She was feeling depressed. “My baby is gone. The baby wasn’t even developing right.” Lacy thought to herself. “I really didn’t want a baby, but it dying? That really hurts me… What if I can never have a normal baby?” Lacy felt confused and upset about what had happened to her. Rick came into the bedroom.
“Lacy, I know you’re upset. I am trying to get us into that house that I was looking at. Do you want the family back together?”
“Dad, I do. But I am sad…” Lacy looks down. “I lost my baby.”
“Lacy… I don’t know what you’re going through but it must be rough. I am going to call up your mother so you can talk to her. Would that be alright?”
“I guess.”
“Alright, I am going to call her up and get her to come over.” Rick left the bedroom.
“I can’t even tell Ronnie I was pregnant and lost the baby. I feel that I am so stupid!” Lacy starts to cry.
Robert was worried about Ronnie and Lacy, but decided to go back to class. Ronnie didn’t even care if he left school. All he wanted to do was speak to Lacy. He wanted to talk to her. That’s all he wanted to do. Ronnie made it to Lacy’s grandparents’ home. He was looking down. He had to knock on the door.
“I just need to knock on the door. I want to talk to Lacy, but what if she doesn’t want to speak to me?” Ronnie thought to himself. “She might be so upset and don’t want to talk to me.” Ronnie took a deep breath and swallowed hard. He knocked on the door. Lacy’s grandmother answered the door.
“Aren’t you Lacy’s friend? Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be in school?” The grandma asks Ronnie.
“I wanted…I wanted to speak to Lacy.” Ronnie answers.
“Lacy told me that she doesn’t want any visitors right now. She’s really upset and not feeling good. Come back another day.”
“But… I really want to talk to her…” Ronnie said. He wanted to speak with Lacy. He was feeling upset.
“I am sorry.” Lacy’s grandmother shuts the door. Ronnie walks away.
“Lacy won’t even see me. Maybe I should get back to school. I am going to get into trouble.” Ronnie decided to make his way slowly back to school. He didn’t know what else to do. He was upset and wanted to speak with Lacy. He knew that she must be really hurting and be depressed.
After school, Max went over Craig’s home. “Before we do our homework, let’s watch something.” Max said and turned the TV on.
“We can’t watch too much, we do need to work on our homework. We got a lot.” Craig said to Max. Craig sat down on the sofa by Max.
“You really dating Alana now?”
“Yes, I am. She really is cute and nice. I feel happy to be with her.” Max replies and blushes a little.
“You finally have a girlfriend now, I really need one.”
“You still haven’t been going out on those dates with those girls?” Max asks Craig. He shook his head.
“No. I haven’t. I decided to not do that anymore. I rather find me a girlfriend and be happy.” Craig tells his friend. “I thought I told you this already?”
“You have a crush on Katie right? Why don’t you just tell her? You should.”
“I can’t… I don’t know what to say to her. I can’t ask her out. She was recently hurt by Robert.” Craig looks the other way.
“I finally just confessed. It was hard, but I managed to do it.” Max said to Craig and laughed. “It was embarrassing.” Craig stood up.
“Life and love is difficult. I started noticing I liked Katie when I saw her crying. When I knew that Robert hurt her. I don’t hate Robert, but I really like Katie. I wish that I can be with her, but she probably wouldn’t be with a guy like me. I mean I did stupid stuff.” Craig says and walks out of the living room.
“I am not really sure about Katie, but I really am happy that I am with Alana now. It took me a while but I managed.”
Alana was with Madison and Katie. “Did really Lacy have a baby and lost it?” Katie asks Alana.
“I really shouldn’t be telling anyone. It really was a secret.” Alana responds.
“What are you two talking about?” Madison asks the two older girls.
“I have an idea! Let’s get something for Lacy! To help cheer her up!” Alana said with a smile.
“I don’t know. Lacy really isn’t my friend.” Katie said.
“She really isn’t mine either. She’s kind of mean.” Madison says to Alana.
“Come on, she really is upset. We should be nice and get her something to help cheer her up.” Alana got Madison and Katie to go into a store with her.
“What does Lacy like anyways?” Madison asks. “She doesn’t like cute things like I do.”
“That’s true.” Alana says. “It will be difficult to think of what to get for her.”
“Would she like a present or maybe flowers? But wouldn’t that be weird to give her flowers?” Katie asks.
Robert was home with Ronnie. They both were in their bedroom. “You know about Lacy, did you ran off to speak with her?” Robert asks.
“I did try to, but she wouldn’t even come to the door. Her grandma sent me off. She’s too upset to talk to anyone.” Ronnie answers.
“Ronnie, I don’t know what to say. Did you really wanted to be a father?”
“I would try to be prepared for everything. I wouldn’t of mind to become a father.” Ronnie tells his brother.
“Even so, Lacy didn’t want a baby but I am assuming that she is depressed because she lost her own baby. I guess that’s understandable.” Robert said to Ronnie. “Lacy is gonna have to go back to school and you will be able to talk to her then. Discuss things, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you two will be awkward from here on around each other.”
“I don’t care. I care for Lacy. I love her, and you obviously don’t. You went on a date with Katie before and even some other girl name ‘Stephanie’. You don’t even believe in love either!” Ronnie glares at Robert. “I don’t even like you being around her anymore!”
“You aren’t dating her.”
“I don’t give a damn! I want to date her! I want to be with her!” Ronnie ran out of the bedroom.
“Don’t love her? I really don’t love Lacy?” Robert thought to himself. “I really do believe love doesn’t exist. Do I actually believe that? Do I really like Lacy or not?” Robert wasn’t sure what to think of his feelings. “I need to give up Lacy and let Ronnie have her.” Robert sat down on his bed. “But according to Stephanie she thinks I won’t be able to give up Lacy. Well, she’s wrong! I will!”
Ronnie didn’t care. He wanted to speak with Lacy. He went straight back to the house. To Lacy’s grandparents’ home. He knocks again. Rick answered the door.
“You one of Lacy’s boyfriends?” Rick asks.
“I want to see Lacy. I really want to. Please. Let me.”
“Lacy doesn’t really want to talk to anyone. I called her mother earlier and it took her a while to come. She’s inside the house talking to her right now. And I think she needs to speak to her right now.”
“You don’t understand! I want to talk to her! I know she was having a baby and most likely it was mine! Please! I want to speak to her!” Ronnie blurts out. He just wanted to speak to Lacy.
“I understand. Come in. But let Lacy speak to her mother first. After she finishes talking to her, then you can.” Rick said and lets Ronnie in. “Sit on the couch.”
In the bedroom, Lacy’s mother was with her. “I don’t think I want to do anything anymore. No school. No nothing.” Lacy said staring at the floor. She was sitting on her bed.
“I understand that you are upset, but Lacy you still need to go to school. Your father said it was alright to let you stay home for a few days because of this miscarriage, but you’re gonna have to go back eventually.” Abbilynn says to her daughter.
“Am I not healthy enough to have a baby? Was Ronnie not? I don’t understand how my baby wasn’t developing correctly.”
“It’s hard, I understand. But when you’re older it probably won’t be like that. Sometimes miscarriages happen. They’re very sad.”
“Did you ever have a miscarriage mother?” Lacy asks. She wanted to know.
“No. I never did. I had you and then James.” Abbilynn replied. “I don’t know what it’s like and I can’t say that I understand it all with you. I am just imagining that it must be sad and miserable.”
“I feel stupid.” Tears started running down Lacy’s face. “I can’t understand what had happened. I never even told Ronnie. I never told him about the pregnancy. I never even told him that I lost it. That it might have been his baby.”
“Lacy, it is hard but do you want to tell him? Would it better for him to know for you two try to coop with it? For you both to grieve?” Abbilynn asks.
“Mommy… would Ronnie hate me? Would he hate me that I wasn’t able to hold the baby?” Lacy asks.
“No! I don’t think Ronnie would hate you! I don’t even think he hates you.” Abbilynn hugs Lacy.
“Mom… I feel like a foolish woman…” Lacy says still upset.
“Lacy, I know we sometimes do not get along but I care for you. I really do. And I am happy to be back with your father and we’re going to be moving into a house soon. And I really want us be a happy family again. Lacy, did you start wearing these dark clothes because you were depressed?” Abbilynn asks her daughter. Lacy stopped hugging her mother.
“I told you I like the clothes and Ronnie and Robert picked them out for me.” Lacy responds.
“Yes I know, but you never dressed this way before.”
“That was because I was a child then. Mom… Do you even care if I lost a baby?”
“I care.” Abbilynn answers. “I really do care. I know I was upset with you for the actions that you decided to do and take, but I don’t hate you. I can never hate my child. I love you and your brother James very much and want you both to be happy.” Lacy starts to dry her tears.
“I wish I knew. Which one I loved more. Robert or Ronnie? I still never found that out yet.” Lacy stood up. “I keep thinking to myself maybe it’s Ronnie? Then a part of me gets upset and thinks no It’s Robert. I can’t stop thinking of them both. I know you told me that I can’t possibly be in love with them both.” Lacy looks out the window.
“Lacy, I know I said that. I know you’re just a young girl. Lots of young girls have crushes. It’s normal and common. But over time, you will soon realize who you truly love. It may not make one of them happy or both, but when the time comes you’ll know.”
“You think I just have a crush on them both right now?” Lacy asks. She was still looking out the window. It was a cloudy day and looked as if it were about to rain.
“I am saying that you may truly love one, but only have a crush on the other. Like you told me you had a crush on Craig. A boy from your school and that you gave him up because you realized that. Am I correct?”
“I suppose you’re right.” Lacy still didn’t face her mother. It started to rain. Lacy stared at the rain outside. No matter what mood Lacy was in. The world still went on. Nothing was ever changing. Nothing will bring back the baby that she lost.
