Lacy waited for her mother to come. When Lacy heard a knock on the door, she quickly answered it.
“Your father isn’t here is he?” Abbilynn asks and hands Lacy a bag with the pregnancy tests in it.
“No. He’s not.” Lacy answered honestly. “He went somewhere with his daughter and girlfriend. Why don’t you try to talk to him when he comes back?”
“Lacy, I can’t. He’s with someone. Might as well file for divorce.” Abbilynn responds. She felt hurt knowing Rick was still with the same woman that he left her for. “Lacy, I really am hoping you aren’t pregnant. You shouldn’t have been doing that. You’re only 14. Too young to be a mother.”
“I know.” Lacy looks down. “I don’t even want a baby right now. But… I can’t do anything about it if I am pregnant.”
“Depends how far along. If you are pregnant and you aren’t far along, there’s a chance that you can have an abortion. But that’s only up to you. It’s your body.” Abbilynn tells Lacy.
“Mom, you aren’t mad at me are you still?” Lacy asks. Abbilynn sighs.
“Lacy, I really do care about. I don’t hate you and I am still disappointed in you. I am hoping maybe your father can help raise you better than I could. I am not really good at raising kids.” Abbilynn answers.
“That’s not true, you’re raising James good. He’s smart, gets good grades, and perfect attendance. He even wants to go to college. So you didn’t mess up all the way. And I’m…” Lacy looks up at her mom and then turned her head. “I am sorry for being such a screw up.”
“It’s alright. Just check yourself with those tests. If the results are positive, make sure you tell your dad so that he can get a doctor for you. The doctors will be the ones to confirm it 100% and then after that, you need to keep going to regular appointments.”
“Okay.”
“Bye. See you later.” Abbilynn said and had left.
“Yeah…bye…” Lacy mumbles and closes the door. Robert went over to her.
“You think you might be pregnant?” He asks her. “By who? Ronnie or me?”
“I am not sure.” Lacy answers. “The latest one that I was having sex with recently was Ronnie. I think the last time I had sex with you was when I had my period.” Lacy guessed.
“Then you might be pregnant by Ronnie?” Robert asks.
“It’s just a guess. If that’s so, then… I don’t know if I can love you too like I love Ronnie. I probably will have to be with just Ronnie if I am carrying his child.” Lacy went to the bathroom. Robert wasn’t sure how he felt.
“I had sex with Lacy more than Ronnie did. Or so I think… How come he got her pregnant? Did he get her pregnant?” Robert was confused about the whole thing.
Bryan went back into the living room and saw Ronnie and Max still watching a TV. “You still watching TV?” Bryan asks.
“Yes.” Ronnie responded. Brice came into the living room.
“Bryan, do you want to go to the store with me? I thought maybe I didn’t need to go, but I do.”
“Okay.” Bryan left the house with his dad.
Lacy was sitting in the bathroom staring at the pregnancy test that she just had taken. She couldn’t believe the results. Robert knocked on the door.
“Hey, Lacy it’s been 6 minutes? Everything okay in there?” Robert asks.
“I can’t believe it! NO!” Lacy thought to herself and threw the pregnancy test away. Lacy felt scared now after she saw the test result. She got a positive test reading, and she didn’t like it. She wasn’t sure what to think or do. She opened the bathroom door and hugs Robert.
“Lacy?” He was confused. “Is everything okay? Was it positive or negative?” Lacy didn’t answer. “Lacy, tell me. What was it?” Lacy lets him go.
“It was negative.” Lacy lies. “I’m not pregnant.”
“That’s a relief isn’t it? Are you still going to take another test in a few days or tomorrow morning?” Robert asks her.
“I have two more tests. I will take the next tomorrow morning and the last in a few days. They all should be negative. I think I might be just getting a slight fever or something.” Lacy couldn’t tell Robert the truth. What the test really said.
“I hope you feel better. Try not to worry too much.” Robert tells her.
“Alright.” Lacy was still panicking but tried to keep a calm face.
“I need to head back home. Try resting. It might help you heal faster if you are getting sick.” Robert got his coat and left. Lacy went in the bathroom. She got some tissues and wrapped the pregnancy test in it. Trying to cover it up. She didn’t want her dad seeing it. Peg or even Pat. She didn’t want no one seeing the test result.
“It could be a false positive.” Lacy tells herself. She wanted it to be wrong. She didn’t want it to be true. She went straight into the living room and dialed on the phone. She called up Alana. She was the only girl that Lacy considered her friend the most. Katie was alright, but Lacy still was upset over the fact that Katie used to like Robert. Madison was just a little girl and she didn’t want to ask her about older problems. Alana was around same age as Lacy and probably could help her. It was a good thing that the two started talking to each other recently. They also hanged out a little as well.
“Alana, I need to talk to you. It’s important.” Lacy tells Alana.
“You know you can count on me Lacy when you need to talk about important things. I will be right over soon. You still living with your dad?”
“Yes. Please, I really need to talk to you before my dad comes back with my crazy half sister and his girlfriend.” Lacy got off the phone with Alana. In about 10 minutes, Alana arrived. Lacy lets her in and they both sit on the sofa together.
“This is the third time that I been here. Two other times we talked about your problems of liking Robert and Ronnie and doing homework.” Alana smiles. “I am really glad to be friends with you. I thought you were unapproachable and wouldn’t want to be my friend.”
“Alana, I really need to talk to you. It’s girl issues”
“You need something for period? Is that your problem?” Alana asks her friend. “I got some medicine that helps cramps if it will help.” Alana was about to go searching in her purse.
“No. It’s not that. It’s worse.” Lacy tells her. Alana stares at her.
“What could be more worse?” Alana asks her.
“Pregnancy.” Lacy responds. Alana’s eyes widen.
“Are you pregnant?” She asks Lacy. She couldn’t believe it. Lacy wasn’t sure how to respond.
“I only took one pregnancy test result. It came out positive.”
“Congrats!” Alana smiles and hugs Lacy. “I am happy for you! Who’s the father? Ronnie or Robert?” Lacy gets Alana to stop hugging her.
“I am guessing Ronnie, but… I don’t want to be pregnant. I don’t want a kid.” Lacy tells her friend.
“That’s too bad. I know you’re young though. Did you tell Ronnie about it?”
“No. I even lied to Robert about the test results. I don’t want to go public with it yet. I feel so worried and uneasy.” Lacy looks down.
“You must be in a bad jam right now. I would be so scared and worried if I were you. That must be rough. If you’re pregnant, do you really want to try to raise the baby and care for it?” Alana asks. “I won’t judge any answer.”
“I really don’t want to.” Lacy admits.
“If Ronnie is the father then I would discuss it with him. If he wants the child, then let him take care of it. Don’t give the baby up for an adoption if he wants his baby. That would be wrong. And if it’s Robert’s, then do the same.”
“I guess that makes sense.” Lacy liked hearing what Alana had to say.
“But if you all don’t want a child, maybe you can give the baby up for an adoption? For someone that can’t have children that wants one. Or maybe your mother would love to take care of it and raise it like her own? Ronnie’s and Robert’s dad might want to too. It all depends. Try to not stress about it. Too much stress will harm the baby. But… there’s also the other option.”
“Other?” Lacy asks.
“The abortion one that I really don’t recommend. It’s cruel to me, but that’s up to you what you want to do. I wouldn’t be able to do that to my own child.” Alana says and Lacy looks down.
“I forgot about that option. If I choose that one, I will make myself into a monster. But… that stuff happens all the time.” Lacy said.
“I don’t want you to think that I am calling you a monster just because I don’t agree with it! No! It’s really up to you. Because it’s your choice. Well, I would discuss it first with Robert and Ronnie. Because it’s also their choice too, but mainly yours.” Alana says. She didn’t want Lacy to think she was judging her for whatever option she wanted to choose.
“I feel worried still, but thanks for trying to talk to me. You did help me a little.” Lacy gets up and went to the kitchen. Alana followed her.
“Are you worried that your family will be angry with you? Or Robert and Ronnie will be angry with you? For being pregnant?” Alana asks.
“I guess you can say so.” Lacy started making herself a sandwich. “I am mad at myself too. I really didn’t want a kid, but I guess it’s my fault because I didn’t have protected sex.” Lacy finished making her sandwich and starts eating it. “Thanks for talking to me.”
“You’re welcome. What are friends for?” Alana smiles. “If you want to hang together, just give me a call.” Alana left. Lacy just looked down.
“I… can’t believe it. Am I pregnant?” Lacy asks herself feeling worried.
