It was early in the morning. Craig had woken up and went passed the living room. He happened to notice his mother was awake and was sitting on the sofa. “Mom?” Craig thought as he stared at her. She was looking down.
“I can’t believe that man broke out of prison just to hurt everyone again.” Benita said to herself. “He’s back in prison now, but… what he did was awful. Poor Sabrina and Craig. I know they must still have nightmares from him. I can’t sleep sometimes from the nightmares…” Benita touched the side of her face. “He hurt me too… I just don’t understand how someone can do something like that.”
“Besides uncle hurting Sabrina and me, he hurt mom too…” Craig thought as he stared at his mother. “She also has those nightmares…” Benita stood up.
“I guess I should make something for everyone to eat.” Benita said and Craig quickly hid in his bedroom.
“Mom went through a lot. Is she sure she wants to have another baby?” Craig wondered. “Mom…” Craig closes his eyes tight. He then reopened them and left his bedroom. He went into the kitchen and saw his mother cooking.
“You’re up early.” Benita said noticing that Craig was in the kitchen with her.
“Mom…”
“What is it?” She asks. Craig wasn’t sure if he wanted to ask her about anything. He looks down. “Hmm?” She stares at him.
“Mom, does it feel weird to see me now and I am a teenager? Last time you saw me I was still a kid.” Craig decided to ask something else. He didn’t want to ask her about the nightmares or anything to get her upset.
“I will admit, it is different. You look a lot like your father.” Benita admits. She smiles a little at Craig. “When he was your age, he looked a lot like you.”
“Oh?” Craig did notice that he did look more like his father than his mother. “I guess Sabrina looks more like you?”
“I don’t know.” Benita went back cooking. “To me, I think you both look like your father.”
“You think so?” Craig asks. She nods. “Let me help you cook breakfast.” Craig began to help out his mother. He was actually a good cook. Once breakfast was finished being made, Craig’s father and Sabrina woke up to eat.
Katie was in her bedroom. She had a nightmare. A nightmare of the man that tried to hurt her. The man that hurt Craig. Craig’s uncle. She was holding her pillow and staring outside her window. Her bed was next to the window in her bedroom. “That man was so scary!” Katie thought to herself. She held her pillow tight and close to her. “I don’t want anyone… I don’t want anyone touching me! No one!” Katie started to cry. “Robert tried to but I think he didn’t mean it. He was just so upset that Lacy dumped him before. I don’t hate Robert and don’t feel scared of him. It’s Craig’s uncle. He’s insane and crazy.”
Katie was home alone. Her parents were already gone for work. Katie was wishing that one of her parents were home. She didn’t want to be alone. Especially when that event happened. They had bought her cell phone and believed it would be good if she were to have it to call them in case of emergency. In case she wasn’t home, she had a phone to still get a hold of them. But even with the phone, a part of Katie still felt scared. Scared of the man that tried to hurt her.
Katie knew the man was in prison but he escaped before. He could possibly do it again and that’s what worried her. Katie heard a noise. “W-What was that?!” Katie thought to herself feeling like her heart was going to rip out of her chest. She stood up. She was trying to be quiet as she could be to lock her bedroom door and then sits down by the doorway. “I hope he isn’t in here!” Katie panicked. She began to hear the sound of something falling. Katie closes her eyes tight.
“I wish Craig was here! I wish my parents were here!” She wasn’t sure what she heard but it sounded like someone was definitely in the living room of the house. Then Katie heard something touching the door. “W-What?!” She turned around to face the door. The sound sounded like scratching. “Wait a minute…”
“Meow!” Was the sound of a cat she heard by the door.
“We don’t have a cat? Why would there be a cat in here?” Katie wondered. She stood up and unlocked the door. She opened the door to see a cat staring at her. The cat didn’t seem to be scared of Katie. Instead, it started to rub itself on her legs. “Umm… Where do you come from?” Katie asks the cat. The cat just kept looking up at her meowing. “Maybe you’re hungry?” Katie went into the kitchen and the cat followed her. She got a plate out and put some food on it and sat it on the floor. The cat began to eat.
“I wonder how you got in here?” Katie went looking around the house and noticed in the living room the window was opened. “Oh, you got in through the window…” Katie assumed. She closed the window. “The cat didn’t have a collar. I wonder if it’s a stray?” Katie went back into the kitchen. The cat was still eating. Katie noticed the cat looked rather skinny. “You must be a stray.”
The cat meowed and stared at her and then it went back eating. “I don’t know if my parents will let me keep you. I can ask.” Katie smiles a little at the cat.
Craig had finished eating breakfast and was sitting in his bedroom. “I wonder if I should hang with Katie or Max today? Maybe Katie, she might still be shook up from what had happened recently.” Craig thought to himself. He sat up in his bed and left his bedroom.
Craig made his way to Katie’s home and knocked on the door. She opened it. At first she was startled, but when she peaked and noticed it was Craig out there, she opened the door for him. “What brings you here?” She asks him surprised. She blushes a little.
“I wanted to hang with you today.” Craig said and hugs her. Katie felt nervous. Her heart began to beat fast.
“Y-You did?” She asked.
“Yes.” Craig replied.
“You can come in. Let me shut the door.” Katie tells him. He lets her go and comes into the home. She shuts the door and locks it. The cat that came into Katie’s home came over to Craig and meows at him.
“Where did he come from? Did you recently got him?” Craig asks and pets the cat.
“He climbed in the window. I think I want to keep him but I have to ask my parents. I think he’s a stray. He’s so skinny and has no collar.” Katie tells Craig.
“He seems friendly.” Craig laughs a little as he continued to pet the cat. The cat purred and seemed to like Craig as the cat also even like Katie.
“He is very friendly.” Katie agrees. “What should I name him?”
“Hmm? I don’t know. If he’s your cat, you should choose the name for him.”
“I guess so, but I don’t even know if I am allowed to keep him. I don’t want my parents getting angry with me. But… He would… he would really keep me company when they work so much.”
“Your parents can’t seem to stop working can they? I don’t understand why your mother just won’t stay home to take care of you and let your father work? That’s what my dad does and we’re doing just fine. Dad got himself a good job. Mom’s pregnant and there’s my little sister and me.”
“Yes, I know. My mom just likes to work I guess. She usually is gone all the time with dad.”
“What do they do anyways for a living?” Craig asked. He went to the sofa and sat down. Katie sat by him. The cat jumped on Katie’s lap and she pets him.
“It’s quite a long story. My mom is my dad’s secretary if that makes any sense.”
“I guess your dad is like some business man or something?” Craig asked. Katie didn’t answer. “I don’t understand how could they be gone all day.”
“I think it’s because after work they just love hanging with each other or they come back to eat and go to bed.” Katie looks down. “I know they care for me, I do. It’s just there are some days I feel like they don’t.” Craig stares at her.
“I am sure your parents do care. Don’t think negative about them.” Craig tells her.
“You’re right. I know they don’t hate me.” Katie agrees with Craig. Katie didn’t think her parents hated her, but there will be days where she would miss them and start to wonder if they didn’t love her. She felt guilty even thinking such things.
“Your parents bought you a cell phone right? Just in case if something happens. I don’t think they hate you.” Craig said. Katie stares at him.
“You’re right. That is true.” Katie touches Craig’s hand. He blushes at her. “Thanks. Want to watch a movie with me?” Katie asks.
“S-Sure.” Craig replied. His was red. He was nervous, but he liked spending time with Katie. She made him happy and he felt like he really liked her.
“Alright, I’ll put a movie on!” Katie stood up and the cat jumped up and went to sit on the floor. Katie was putting a movie on and Craig was watching her.
“I used to have a crush on Lacy. I thought that she was the one for me and that we were similar. But when I was with Lacy, I noticed that she was a really great girl but I do no love her. A crush isn’t the same as true love. When I am with Katie, I feel like I really like her and I don’t want nothing ever happening to her.” Craig thought to himself.
There was something about Katie. He just seem to like her. A lot. Ever since they started dating, he felt like he grew to love her more than when he started crushing on her. When he was dating Lacy before, that didn’t happen. He liked her, but didn’t feel that it was true love. When he was with Katie he felt something different. Something else and being with her made him much more happy.
