“I am sorry Robert. I love you but it isn’t right. It isn’t right to do this!” Lacy ran off. She went to search for Ronnie. Robert felt like his heart shattered in pieces. He touched his chest.
“I feel like…” Robert felt upset. Tears started to run down his face. “I didn’t expect this today…” Robert mumbles. The front door opened. It was Brice.
“Why was the door unlocked? Robert?” Brice seen Robert look upset. “What is the matter?” Robert ran off. “I wonder what is going on?” Brice asks himself.
Lacy found Ronnie upstairs in his bedroom. He had the radio playing as he was lying on the bed. He was staring at a music magazine. He was surprised to see Lacy come into the bedroom.
“Lacy? What are you doing in here?” Ronnie asks her confused. He seen the tears in her eyes. He sat up. “Lacy? Are you okay? What’s the matter?”
“I… I finally did it. I chose one of you.” Lacy says to him. Ronnie got off the bed.
“What do you mean?” Ronnie asks her confused.
“I chose you.” She tried to dry her tears but could not.
“You chose me?” Ronnie asks her. Lacy nods.
“Aren’t you happy?” She asks. More tears kept coming. Ronnie walks over to her. He brought her close to him and hugs her.
“I am not sure what made you want to choose one of us all of a sudden. It didn’t have to do with Alana coming here did it?” Ronnie asked.
“Does it matter?” Lacy asks and hugs Ronnie back.
“No. It doesn’t.” Ronnie said. “I am happy you chose me.”
“Ronnie, about… that miscarriage. Are you upset with me about it?” Lacy asks and looks at him.
“It was no one’s fault.” Ronnie replies. Ronnie kisses Lacy. She kisses his lips back. Robert walked in on the both of them.
“Lacy did choose him! She did!” Robert thought to himself. He felt like he was upset. “I… I knew true love doesn’t exist!” Robert ran off. He decided to leave the house. He was very upset. He didn’t even say a word to his father when his father tried to ask him about it. He simply just ran out of the house. He wanted to get away. He had to get away. He didn’t want to see Ronnie and Lacy together. He felt like it was a bad dream. A nightmare. She chose Ronnie.
“Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!” Robert yells as he ran as fast as he could away from the house. He didn’t want to go near Ronnie anymore. He felt upset and angry with him at the same time. He felt upset with Lacy. He felt heartbroken. Craig was walking in the town. He had gotten some candy for his mother that she asked him to buy. He happened to see Robert running.
“What’s he running for? He looks upset.” Craig thought as he noticed Robert’s face. Craig grabs Robert’s arm. Robert couldn’t run from him.
“LET ME GO!” Robert yelled.
“Robert, are you alright?” Craig asked concerned for Robert.
“IT DOESN’T CONCERN YOU! NOW LET ME GO DAMMIT!” Robert yelled. Craig wouldn’t let him go.
“No. You look upset. Robert, are you crying?”
“SHUT UP! I AM NOT!” Robert couldn’t stop the tears that wanted to keep running down his face. The tears just kept coming.
“Robert, you’re crying. Did something happen? Tell me.” Craig wanted to know. “Look. Lacy is important to me still. I am not in love with her, but she is a dear friend to me. Please tell me if something happen to her.” Robert looks down.
“Lacy…” Robert says and Craig lets him go. “She chose Ronnie. I got dumped.” Robert tells Craig.
“S-She did?” Craig asked. He was surprised. “But I thought she tried to date him before and it didn’t work out?” Craig asks confused.
“I don’t know! She said she should be with him since she got pregnant by him and miscarried!” Robert tried to dry his tears.
“How do you know it wasn’t your baby she miscarried?” Craig asks confused.
“Because! Lacy assumed she was pregnant around the time she was in that little relationship before with Ronnie!” Robert answered.
“But she honestly doesn’t know that. She doesn’t. She could’ve been pregnant by you. You know that right?” Craig wasn’t sure how they could think the baby that died was Ronnie’s.
“She said she had a feeling it was Ronnie’s baby! So there!” Robert said feeling upset. “She kept saying she felt like it was! And it really hurt my feelings!”
“You know, you all won’t honestly know.”
“I can’t have kids!”
“You can’t?” Craig asked surprised. “Are you sure? Did a doctor confirm that?”
“No.”
“If a doctor didn’t confirm it, then you honestly don’t know do you? Maybe you should get someone professional to look into that? Ask Alana. She’s rich. She might be able to help or her dad. See if you really are not able to have children. And if you aren’t then you know the baby was Ronnie’s. But if you are able to have children than you know… You know there was a slight chance that the miscarried baby could’ve been yours. You know that right?” Craig said. Robert stared at him. He was no longer crying. He wasn’t sure what Craig was getting at.
“What do you mean? It couldn’t have been mine. I done Lacy more than Ronnie and she never got pregnant. And then when she started that little relationship with Ronnie she got pregnant. That’s how it happen! And then she miscarried.” Robert tried to explain the best way he could to Craig.
“You know there is a slight possible chance that the baby could’ve been yours. How do you know Ronnie isn’t the one not able to have kids and you are? You all are just jumping to conclusions just because you assume Lacy conceived the time she was with Ronnie. How do you know that she didn’t actually get pregnant moments before she was with Ronnie? Hmm? Do you know? Do you really know?”
“I… I don’t know.” Robert looks down.
“See? You just assume because it’s the obvious but you all three might be clueless and it might be the other way around. Or so…”
“Craig… I don’t know.” Robert and Craig started to walk with each other. “Maybe I should just let Ronnie have her. He might love her more than me. Love doesn’t exist anyways.”
“You know that’s a lie right? Love does exist. You love Lacy. And you feel heartbroken.”
“Did you felt heartbroken when she dumped you?” Robert asks.
“Sort of, but I got over it quickly. You might do the same, you might not.”
“Lacy was just someone that came into my life. I wanted to save her. I wanted to protect her. I wanted to be with her. But Ronnie had the same desires as me and now he gets to be with her while I don’t.”
“Maybe everything was fated to happen this way. Maybe you and Lacy just wasn’t meant to be. Maybe she was meant to be with Ronnie.” Craig guessed. “I used to be good with fortunes before.” Craig sighs.
“Fortunes? I remember a girl name Stephanie act like that towards me and was right about some things…” Robert mumbled.
“Want to go over my house and play with some tarot cards?” Craig laughed a little.
“You own those?” Robert asked surprised.
“I do now!” Craig laughs again. “You see, Lacy left them in my bag and I just kept them. I learned to play with them too and can do good readings.”
“But fortunes aren’t real.” Robert laughed a little.
“You’re laughing?” Craig asks surprised. “Well, if you don’t believe me. I did a good reading before for Max!”
“You did?”
“Yes! And it was spot on! Come to my house.”
Ronnie was looking at Lacy. “Are you really sure you want to be with me? Remember last time? You act like all you could still think about was the both of us. Robert and me.”
“I am sure this time.” Lacy answered Ronnie. “I will try my best.” Lacy smiles a little at Ronnie. “I kept thinking about this… Thinking it was wrong to take you both. To have you both. I wanted you both but it isn’t right. Is it?”
“No. It isn’t.” Ronnie says to her. “Don’t look at Robert ever again. Don’t think of him ever again.” Ronnie said and pushes Lacy down on the bed. Lacy blushes.
“I… I promise. Ronnie I am all yours.” Lacy said. “I no longer belong to Robert too. Just you.” Lacy felt like she was going to cry but held it in. Truth was, she still had feelings for Robert too. Deep feelings. She could only choose one. And she decided to choose the one she was once pregnant by. If she were to choose Robert, he probably would be uncomfortable about it even though he didn’t seem much to be to her.
Robert had gone over to Craig’s home. “Who is this cutey?” Craig’s mom said with a smile. “He’s adorable!”
“Ugh.” Robert hated being called ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’. In fact, he hated it.
“Mom, he’s a friend. Here’s your candy.” Craig handed his mom the candy she wanted.
“I was craving this!” She said with a smile and took a piece of the candy and ate it. Craig took Robert with him to his bedroom.
“Your mom is weird.” Robert had to tell Craig what he thought.
“Mom thought Max was cute too.” Craig laughed.
“Why?”
“Who cares.” Craig pulled a deck of cards out of his desk. It was a tarot deck. “I am going to use these cards.” Craig sat at his desk and began to shuffle the cards.
“What am I doing? These dumb cards can’t tell me nothing. They are fake. She false. They don’t know the future. They don’t know nothing about me.” Robert thought to himself as Craig shuffled the cards. He watched him lay some down flat. Then he watched Craig picked up cards slowly. One by one.
“This is very interesting.”
“What is?” Robert asked.
“Well, I did a fortune reading. I asked these tarot cards a question and they gave a good simple answer.”
“What is it?” Robert asked.
“It gave out some clues of who your soulmate is.”
“Soulmate?”
