It was a nice warm day. The sun was out. The temperature wasn’t too bad. Madison was sitting outside. Even though the day was nice, she didn’t feel like she was in a good mood. Madison wasn’t participating in any activity that the others were attending. Bryan had noticed this and walks over to Madison.
“Are you okay?” He asks her. She didn’t respond. He sat down by her. “Are you alright? You seem quiet today. Are you feeling alright?”
“No. I am not. I feel… I don’t know…” Madison wasn’t sure how to describe her feeling. “I just don’t feel right.”
“You aren’t sick are you?” Bryan asks her.
“I don’t think so.” Madison responds.
“Maybe you should go talk to one of the adults? Peg won’t be much help.”
“Maybe you’re right.” Madison stood up and walks away.
“I hope she is fine…” Bryan thought to himself.
Robert was smoking a cigarette as he sat outside on the porch. “I wonder if Lacy is ever going to give one of us up? I am beginning to wonder if she does love one of us more but afraid to admit it. Possibly not wanting to hurt the other.” Robert threw the cigarette down on the ground and smashes it. Ronnie opened the door.
“This is where you are?” Ronnie asked.
“What do you want?” Robert rudely responds.
“It was supposed to be your turn to take garbage out last night and you didn’t! I had to do it!” Ronnie snaps at Robert. Robert looked at him and then back down at the ground. “Are you even listening to me?!”
“I don’t care.” Ronnie slams the door and went back into the house. “I wonder what Lacy is doing today?” Robert wondered.
Lacy was in the living room in her home with her mother. They both were watching TV. Abbilynn had a day off. “You aren’t going to hang with your friends today?”
“Robert and Ronnie are probably too busy to hang with me.” Lacy answered.
“Lacy, I want to ask you something? Why do you want to date two guys anyways? Doesn’t that bother you when people think you’re weird?”
“Mom, I am weird. I been weird. Do you really think I care about what others think of me?” Lacy asks and got up. She went to the kitchen to grab a soda out of the fridge and then brought it back with her into the living room. She sits down and opens the soda and starts to drink it.
“You don’t care if people know you want to be with them two boys? Honestly, I don’t know what to say or think. Because it really is strange. I don’t hate you, don’t get me wrong. I just think it’s weird that you say that you’re in love with two brothers.”
“Mom, why does it bother you so much? It’s my life. Not yours.” Lacy answers and takes a drink of her soda.
“I just don’t know what to say much about it. I get you’re a teenager now and going through a lot. And… You already went through almost being a mother.”
“I don’t really want to talk about that.”
“What if you wind up getting pregnant again by one of those boys? What will you do?” Abbilynn asks Lacy.
“I will think about that when the time comes. I really… “Lacy sits her soda on the coffee table. “I really love Robert and Ronnie both. I know it’s weird. I know you’re disappointed in me for it. I want to be with them both. I already decided that.”
“But you know them boys don’t actually approve of it. They probably will end up hating each other because they both want to have you. They both probably don’t want to share you.”
“I already know that!” Lacy looked down. “I… I know… I know how they feel.”
“But yet you’re selfishly getting your way out of it all? Not letting them be happy? Don’t you want to be happy with one of them and let the other be happy with another girl? True love is for two people. Not a bunch together.”
“Now… Now you’re saying it’s not true love? Is that what you’re saying?!” Lacy glares at her mother.
“Lacy, please calm down. I am not trying to argue with you. I just want to know if you think you’re making the right decision. I want to make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into. I don’t want you to end up getting hurt in the end.”
“I don’t care what you say! I love Robert! I love Ronnie! I love them both! I do! I really do!” Lacy starts to cry. “I don’t care if it’s selfish of me or not! I want to be together with them both! And if they both honestly can’t accept that then they don’t love me! Then I won’t be with anyone!” Lacy got up and ran out of the living room. She went in her bedroom and got her shoes and went straight out the backdoor.
“Wait… Lacy…” Abbilynn couldn’t even stop her. “I made her upset again…” James came out of his bedroom.
“Lacy really likes those two brothers?” James asks.
“This really doesn’t concern you. You’re too young to hear about things like this.”
“Mom, I am not dumb. I figured she liked them before. Way back when we first moved in next door to them. The three of them just seemed to click or however you will say that.” James tells Abbilynn.
“I don’t know what I should do honestly. It is wrong for her to be dating both them boys. But at the same time…”
“At the same time, you don’t want to be a bad mother just because you don’t want to scold her for being in love? You keep trying to ask her about it because you really are afraid that other mothers or just other people will think you’re weird if you approve your daughter doing such things. I also have a slight idea that you do not want others to get involved in the matter and try to remove Lacy from the home. Correct?” James asks.
“You really are smart. I… I don’t want to be a bad mother. I don’t want others to think I am stupid for even approving such a thing. I don’t… I don’t want Lacy taken from me if someone calls things.” Abbilynn said and looks down. “I wish Lacy could understand that I am not angry with her…”
Lacy had tears still running down her face. They wouldn’t stop. “Will she just leave me alone?! Why she does have to ask me dumb questions?!” Lacy trips. She fell over a rock. The long stockings she wearing were torn. She sat down and just looked up at the sky. “But maybe my mom is right… Robert and Ronnie. They really aren’t happy with it. They keep trying to tell me that they’re fine and they will deal with it… But… What I need to do is…. I need to just pick one or pick none.” Lacy says to herself.
Katie happened to see Lacy. She walks over to her. “Are you okay?” She asks and hands her hand out to her. Lacy gets up on her own.
“What do you want?” Lacy glares at her and dries her tears.
“Hey! I don’t want to fight! Besides, I thought we were friends. Remember our sleepover?”
“Katie, can I ask you something?”
“Sure. You can ask me anything.” Katie said staring at Lacy.
“I want to know. What I should do? I like both Robert and Ronnie and I know I shouldn’t. Who should I choose?”
“You really asking me that? Isn’t that your choice to pick which one you want?” Katie asks. “I can’t choose. It’s your feelings. It’s your choice.”
“Is it wrong for me to be with them both?” Lacy asks.
“I… I don’t want to seem rude, but it is. It’s not fair to them both.” Katie said. Lacy walks away. “I-I didn’t want to be mean! Lacy!” Katie wasn’t sure if she hurt Lacy’s feelings or not. Lacy had walked away and didn’t look back at Katie.
“She is correct.” Lacy thought to herself. She walks into a store. She walked into an aisle. Alana happened to see her.
“Lacy!” Alana said with a smile and walks over to Lacy. “What did you come in here for? Did you needed something?” Alana asks. She noticed Lacy was just looking down. “What’s the matter? Are you okay?” Alana asks.
“I…It’s wrong to be in love with two people. I met Robert and Ronnie at the same time. I knew them both. And they both… Didn’t treat me like a nobody. They accepted me for who I was and make me… happy.”
“Are you having thoughts again about you not sure about being with the both of them?” Alana asks. Lacy nods.
“I love them. I do. But it’s wrong. I either choose one or forget both. That’s how love works. Right?”
“I…I don’t know honestly.” Alana responds. “You said you met them both at the same time? You developed feelings for them both at the same time?”
“I did.”
“It’s weird I won’t say that it’s normal but… it’s your choice. You want to do that, if they want to do that… Then that is up to the three of you.” Alana tells Lacy. “I am still going to be your friend no matter what. You hear?” Lacy stares at her.
“I don’t want to hurt them both! They keep saying they want to both be with me that they will deal with it and put their feelings aside about not liking me with the other too but… It’s selfish and wrong of me! I should give them both up!”
“Lacy… They really think that?” Lacy nods.
“I heard them both! When they thought I wasn’t around!”
“Can I talk to them? Can I speak to the both of them and ask they their feelings about the matter and then I will tell you what they tell me. Alright? Or do you want me to get Max to ask them?”
“Please don’t’ bring that weirdo into it.” Alana laughed a little.
“Alright, I will go talk to them. You can go to my house and wait for me there! Alright?” Alana had a smile upon her face.
“If you think that would work… I am afraid to hear their answer.” Lacy says and looks down again.
“Don’t be! It will be okay.” Alana said and ran off. Lacy sighs.
“I am not sure about that. Robert and Ronnie probably will… that probably aren’t happy with me…” Lacy mumbles to herself.
Bryan was worried about Madison. He found her in the cabin. She was sitting on her bed. “Are you alright? Did you talk to one of the counselors?” Bryan asks.
“I did…” Madison said quietly and pulls her knees close to her.
“Are you sick?”
“No… I am not.”
