It was in the afternoon and early summer. Alana and Madison had gone over Katie’s home. They were thinking about going out and just spending time together as friends.
“We should invite Lacy to hang with us.” Alana suggested.
“Are you sure?” Madison asks. “I don’t know if she really likes us truthfully…”
“She doesn’t hate anyone.” Alana thought it would be nice to invite Lacy to come with them. “It will be fun going shopping all together.”
“Madison, I think it sounds like an okay idea.” Katie didn’t mind if Lacy wanted to come with them shopping. “But Alana you can ask her alright? It’s alright if she doesn’t want to come too.”
“Alright, I’ll call her.” Alana had got her cell phone out to call Lacy.
Robert was lying in bed. He some reason wasn’t feeling that good. It was weird too because it was summer. He felt like the heat was getting to him. Ronnie came into the bedroom. “Why hasn’t Lacy been calling or coming over? Why hasn’t she been answering my phone calls? Her mom tells me to leave her be for right now and Lacy will get back to me later. Is Lacy okay?” Ronnie asked. Robert didn’t feel like answering all of Ronnie’s questions. He felt dizzy.
“I…I don’t know. If you’re so concerned… go visit.” Robert said feeling tired. All he wanted to do was rest. He didn’t feel like doing anything. Just wanted to lay in bed. He had a box fan blowing on him. It didn’t seem to help much. Ronnie left the bedroom.
“I wonder if there really is something up? Robert probably won’t tell me anyways.” Ronnie decided to leave.
At Lacy’s home, she got off the phone with Alana. “I guess I can go hang with them. I can get my mind off some things. I don’t need to keep thinking so much about my dreams and feelings.” Lacy went into her bedroom and was putting some shoes on. She then left her bedroom and was getting ready to go out the door. She opens the door just to see Ronnie. He had gotten there very quickly.
“Lacy.”
“R-Ronnie?!” She felt nervous when she saw him. She wanted to slam the door and lock it, but she couldn’t. she felt like she froze.
“Is everything alright? You seem to be distant for a bit and I wanted to make sure everything was alright.”
“Everything is alright. I just want to spend some time alone and my other friends.” Lacy said.
“Other friends? You mean Alana?” Ronnie asks. She nods slowly.
“Alana just invited me to go shopping with her. Madison and Katie are coming too. Is that wrong?”
“No. It’s not. I just wanted to make sure that you’re okay. I didn’t say anything that hurt your feelings when you were over my home did I?” Ronnie wasn’t sure if he accidently said or did something to hurt Lacy’s feelings and she was being distant because of this.
“No. You did nothing wrong. I am just trying to do other things. Alright?” Lacy went outside and shuts the door. “I don’t have any more time to chat, I need to go meet up with the girls.” Lacy walks off the porch and began to walk away.
“I feel like… Something is going on. Just a little bit that I feel like that. I wonder why Lacy doesn’t tell me much…” Ronnie thought to himself. He began to walk away and was on his way home. He wasn’t sure why but he was starting to feel upset. “I feel…I feel like something is going to happen soon and I probably won’t like it.” Ronnie began to have weird feelings at the moment and wasn’t liking them. He decided to go home and just try to forget any worries and just hoped Lacy was doing alright.
Brice came home with his new girlfriend. They happened to see Bryan watching cartoons in the living room. “Where’s Robert? Is he still feeling sick?” Brice asked Bryan.
“I think so. He never came down stairs.” Bryan responded.
“What do you think is wrong with him?” Amy asked.
“I don’t know. I think he’ll be fine. It might be the heat bothering him for some reason. Where’s Ronnie?”
“Ronnie went out. Said something about checking on Lacy I think.” Bryan tells his father.
“Oh, I am going to be going back out. You be good.” Brice and his girlfriend left. Ronnie came home not too long later. He went straight up to his and Robert’s bedroom. He seen Robert still lying on the bed.
“I went to see Lacy.”
“Y-You did?” Robert opened his eyes and stared at his brother. “Damn. I need a cold rag.” Robert sat up.
“Lacy was acting a little strange, is something going on with her?” Ronnie asked. He wanted to make sure that Robert didn’t know anything he didn’t know.
“I honestly don’t know.” Robert stood up from the bed and left the bedroom. He went into the bathroom and got a wash rag damped with cold water. He then came back into the bedroom and laid down on the bed. He put the rag over his face.
“Are you sure you doing know anything? Aren’t you even worried about her?”
“There’s nothing we can do. Just leave her be for a little while until she is ready to come back talking.” Robert tells Ronnie. “I don’t want to bother her and piss her off.”
“You don’t think she is mad at us, do you?”
“No. I don’t think she is. She probably just wants to be alone for a bit. Just give her time.” Robert was hoping that Ronnie wouldn’t get upset or worried. He was hoping that he would be fine. Robert just wanted to rest because he didn’t feel too well and didn’t want to be bothered anymore as he was passing out now.
Lacy had gone to the mall with Madison, Alana, and Katie. The three seemed to be happy and was enjoying their time going into the small stores in the mall. Lacy on the other hand, she was still thinking about her dreams. She kept having them and wanted them to stop. They were all eating now. Katie and Madison had gone up to go to the bathroom. Alana stared at Lacy. She could tell something was bothering her.
“Are you alright? I noticed that the whole time we been here so far, you haven’t been enjoying yourself. Is there something that is bothering you?” Alana asks. She was concerned for Lacy.
“Well… I don’t want to tell a lot of people. But… Please don’t tell anyone.”
“I won’t.” Alana promised.
“I have been having these weird dreams lately. At first, I was having these weird ones were I was older with Robert and Ronnie. We were pretending we were married. It was strange. And now… well… my dreams now keep having to do with me. Me telling myself to quit lying about my feelings. My feelings telling me that I love one more than the other.”
“Is that true? Do you love one more than the other?” Alana asks. Lacy looks down.
“I don’t know. My mother thinks so. She thinks it’s my conscience telling me so. I…I am thinking I might, but then when I do… I feel so bad. I feel like I betrayed the other brother.” Lacy looked like she was going to cry.
“It’s alright, Lacy. You didn’t betray either of them. It’s alright to feel that you love one more than the other. You said you love them both, but just because you love one slightly more doesn’t mean it’s bad or wrong. It’s normal.” Alana was trying to be nice to Lacy. “I am sure they will both understand once you tell them. The one that you love most is the one you should date and be with, the other one that you still care for probably can move on to someone else. But it doesn’t mean you can’t be friends with him still.”
“I…I… I don’t want him to be with someone else!”
“Lacy…” Alana felt bad seeing Lacy looking upset. She wasn’t sure what else to say to her without making Lacy get upset more. She didn’t want Lacy to start crying. Katie and Madison came back over and sat down.
“Is everything okay?” Katie asked.
“It’s fine.” Alana kept her promise not to tell anyone about Lacy’s problem that she was having. Lacy looked down still.
“If I come clean about my feelings, I would stop having those damn dreams. But… if I do… I will feel hurt because I will have to give up one of them. I can’t give him up. I don’t think I can bare seeing him with another girl.” Lacy thought to herself. She felt like her feelings at the moment were complicated.
Madison, Katie, Alana, and Lacy had gone to a few more stores. Lacy mostly just browsed as she didn’t really purchase anything. Alana got a few things. She bought herself a cream color purse with a white ribbon on it. The purse also had lace on it. It was cute. She also bought herself some hair ribbons. Alana also bought herself a skirt that was cute and puffy. It was red with white lace on it. Madison got herself a dress. The dress was a beautiful light blue color. The dress also had cute pink flower patterns on it. Madison also got herself a pair of jeans that had a design on them. Katie bought herself a few hair accessories along with some shoes. All girls had fun shopping. Lacy on the other hand, had her mind still off into her feelings. She was trying hard to ignore it, but it was too hard for her.
Madison went to Katie’s home to spend the night. Alana declined as she wanted to talk to Lacy. They both were walking together after Madison and Katie was dropped off.
“I am sorry if you couldn’t distract yourself today.” Alana said. Lacy looks down.
“I am selfish. I know I am.” Lacy says.
“Everyone gets a little selfish here and there sometimes. Are you going to date one of the brothers?”
“I am not sure.” Lacy stopped walking. Alana stopped and turned around to stare at Lacy. “I have mixed feelings about it. I know if I told them both my feelings that…That I think I am truly having, the one that I don’t like the most will be hurt. He probably won’t talk to me anymore. And if I told them my true feelings things wouldn’t go back the same. I wouldn’t be able to have them both.”
“Maybe you aren’t meant to have them both. There might be another girl out there. Another girl out there that will love him the most more than you and will be there for him. Maybe you are only supposed to be with the one you love the most.” Alana suggested. “I am getting a little confused. Which one is it you love the most? Ronnie?”
“Ronnie is…Ronnie…he’s special to me. He’s handsome, nice, and been there for me. I love him a lot, but…” Lacy looked like she was going to cry again.
“He’s not…You love Robert more?” Alana asks.
“I feel like I am betraying him! I am betraying Ronnie! I used him! I am the stupidest girl in the world!” Lacy cries.
“Lacy…” Alana felt bad for Lacy crying. She wanted to be there to help her out as they both were close friends. “I am sure you’re not betraying him.”
“But…! I just know he’ll do something stupid if I told him my true feelings! And then the thought of him finding another girl is going to hurt me too!”
“Lacy. It’s going to hurt. It’s going to hurt a lot but you can’t do anything about it. Love is sometimes like that. I understand you love Ronnie, but you just told me you love Robert more. If you love Robert more, once you’re together with him you won’t feel like this. I get that you feel like you hurt Ronnie’s feelings. But when you’re with Robert things will change. Robert’s feelings will become the most important to you and even though Ronnie can possibly still be a best friend he will make it through. He will be hurt I am sure, but he probably will find someone else. Another girl that will love him the most.”
Lacy wasn’t sure how she felt hearing those words.
